![]() Sinqua Walls plays Kamal, a former college promise and now retired pick up player while hip hop star Jack Harlow plays the white guy who can't dunk (Jeremy). The plot is pretty much the same, although there are a lot of changes here that make no sense. Because like so many other remakes, this is just a long, murky, gooey affront to an original that didn't need to be remade at all. Now it's been released, via Hulu, on Disney Plus and I watched it last night, which I should not have done. When I found out that they were casting a rapper who had basically never acted before and a newcomer whose primary work experience is Teen Wolf, some skepticism began to bubble up, so to speak. When I heard that a remake of this film was being made, I was instinctively skeptical. The contrast between the flashy extrovert showman Sidney Deane (Wesley Snipes) and the more modestly quiet but even more skilled player Billy Hoyle (Woody Harrelson) was spot on and the script was sharp, funny, accurate, charming and full of personality. ![]() I trained three times a week with two different teams and played games on Sundays and of course this movie quickly became one of my favorites. ![]() I had just turned 14 when White Men Can't Jump first hit theaters and my life consisted of primarily two things: video games and basketball. That mouthing off on the Venice Beach basketball court in the early, colourful 90s in kingpin Ron Shelton's iconic comedy is etched in the back of my mind.
